So during this time, no auspicious occasion especially marriage Muhurta is not possible. After Diwali, during the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha, Lord Vishnu awakens from his sleep.
In Hindu religion, stories related to particular days are popular, in the same way there are many stories related to Devothan Ekadashi. One of them is that Lord Vishnu used to keep working without resting for many years, his wife Lakshmi ji kept serving her husband, Lord Vishnu without complaining. But one day Lakshmi ji asked Lord Vishnu “Lord, don’t you ever get tired? Hearing this, Vishnu smiled and asked Lakshmi Ji “Goddess please tell you what’s in your mind, do not hesitate”. Hearing this, Lakshmi replied, “Lord, it is my duty to serve you, but sometimes I also feel tired and sleepy”.
“I request you that if you rest for some time then I will be able to relax too”. On this insistence of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu decided that from that day on in every year from the rainy season to the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, he will take a rest from all the work. Since then every year Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik Mass is called Devosthan Ekadashi.
