According to Jain texts, Gomateshwara was the second son of first Jain Adinath's Tirthankara. It is said that Adinath had a total of 100 daughters. When Rishabhdev left his kingdom, a feud started between the two sons Bharat and Bahubali for the empire. In which Bahubali won and they, despite winning their state, decided to give the state to the small Bharata and went away from their territory to get the full knowledge themselves.

This idol is believed to have a wonderful display of power, strength and moderate feelings in this idol. The anointing of the idol is on the special Mahamatkabhishek festival. The celebration of Lord's festival is celebrated with great pomp and thousands of devotees in the Shravanabelagola hill every 12 years consider the festival as the seventh of Harsha. The idol is anointed with tons of milk, sugarcane juice, and saffron flowers. The world's tallest ashram statue is also found in saffron, curd, milk and gold coins. Let us tell you that in the 12 years this festival is celebrated, in which people of Jain religion participate with great enthusiasm and they please God with their devotion.
