Purnima (refers to the lunar phase of a Moon) when it looks fully illuminated from the earth is celebrated on the day when there is a full moon in the sky which is also the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July).
On this day, it is said that Lord Shiva who's also known as the lord of destruction became the Adi Guru (or first Guru). Adiyogi (first Yogi) had 7 disciples who are often referred to as Saptarishis. These were the first disciples of lord shiva. All these Saptarishis (7 stars) later spread all the teachings from the first Yogi and spread it across the world. These teachings include Astrology, Yoga, Ayurveda Etc.
On this day all educational institutions celebrate this day to pay gratitude to Ved Vyasa along with their teachers through different cultural events. All these events are practiced to highlight the essence of the Guru (Teacher) and Shishya (Student) bond. While the students recite prayers or poems for their teachers, the teachers bless their students with blessings for a brighter and more successful future.
Guru Purnima is celebrated to pay tribute to the most important person in an individual's life, his Guru (mentor/ teacher) who shares his entire life's earnings and his whole assets in the form of priceless knowledge through spiritual or non-spiritual teaching. This festival is observed to pay tribute and Gratitude to the spiritual teachers or leaders.
Since humanity has its roots there are thousands of examples of some world-renowned spiritual gurus who have not limited themselves or the blanket of their spiritual knowledge to their home country. They have come up as an impressive source of spiritual navigators not just for a few individuals but for decades and passed on from one generation to the other.
finest examples of such Gurus are Swami Vivekanand, he was a great Indian Hindu monk, and a chief disciple of the 19th century, and Gautama Buddha who was great was a monk, mendicant, sage, philosopher, teacher, and religious leader, whose teachings led the formation of a new religion today known to us as Buddhism.
