Maha Navami is the 9th day of Navratri and is the last day of prayer before Vijayadashami or Dussehra. On this auspicious day, Goddess Durga is worshipped all over the country in different forms. Devotees do worship prayer and fasting on this day now we will talk about this festival in detail.
According to the Indian calendar in the month of Ashwin on Navami of Shukla paksha Maha Navami is celebrated. And according to the English calendar in the month of September and October. In the year 2024 Maha Navami will be celebrated on Saturday, 12th October on this day devotee worships the Goddess in different forms.
According to mythological stories, Goddess Durga fought with the king of devil Mahishasur continuously for 9 days. Due to this prayer going for 9 days. With the power of goddess and intelligence getting the win on badness this day is considered the last day which is called Maha Navami so, at the end of the day of this auspicious day, Vijayadashami is celebrated.

1. On this day Devi Durga is blessed in the form of Saraswati which is considered as the Goddess of knowledge and wisdom. In South India along with the Goddess instruments like machinery, musical instruments, books, automobiles and different kinds of other instruments are our worship. This day is considered very important for or starting any new work.
2. Students start going to school in this way in South India.
3. In Northern Eastern India worshipping of small daughters is done at various places. According to this ritual, 9 small daughters are worshipped in the form of nine Goddesses. Their feet are getting washed and then a paste of Kumkum and Chandan is applied to them, they are given new clothes and then by chanting mantras and incense sticks, they are being worshipped. Special food is prepared for them and gifts are also given to them from the devotees with full respect and love.
4. In the Eastern India Maha Navami is the third day of Durga Puja. It is initiated with a 2nd bath after which Shodashupchaar Pooja is done. Goddess Durga is worshipped in the form of Mahishasura Mandini the meaning of which is the Goddess who killed Mahishasura. He was a devil in the form of the buffalo who was killed on this day.
5. Special rituals of Navami Puja is done at the end.
6. It also believes that worship done on this day is equal to the worship done on all the other days off of Navratri.
7. In some places, the ritual of Sacrifice of animals is going on this day.

In some regions of Andhra Pradesh, Bathukamma festival is organized on this day it is motivated by buying a beautiful flower this worship is done by Hindu women and flowers are organized in the seven layers in the form of Shank and offered to goddess Gauri in the form of Durga. This festival is celebrated Huda beauty and glory of women wear new clothes and ornaments on this day.
