Every Purnima (full moon) has a distinctive significance. It is an important day of Hindu calendar. On this day, people take a bath in sacred rivers and later carry acts of charity by donating things to the impoverished people. On this day many worship god Satyanarayan and arrange a Satyanarayan Puja and Satyanarayan Paath is narrated. According to the Bhavishya Purana, it eliminates all sins just by going on a pilgrimage to holy shrines on a Purnima day.

It is said that Lord Krishna had said that the month of Margashirsha is very auspicious. Taking a bath, doing charity and penance on this Purnima is very importance. As a result, we see a huge crowd of devotees at Haridwar, Banaras, Mathura and Prayagraj on the day of Margashirsha because on this day there is a big practice of bathing and fasting Ganga.
On the day of Margashirsha Purnima, take an early morning dip in a nearby river while imagining about the lord Narayana. On Margashirsha Purnima take an early morning bath and wear white attire and followed with hymn chanting the mantras Om Namo Narayana Mantra. On this day worship God keeping an Aasan (pew, the platform for worshipping) and using fragrances and flowers.
1. Performing a Havana on this day is also considered auspicious, the devotees should sit in front of the idol of Lord Narayan and perform the ritual of Havana and later donate to a pandit.
2. On the second day of fasting doing charity and giving donation ceases many misfortunes. Benefaction of rice, barley, clothes etc. should be done. The day when you are fasting one should sleep on the ground and keep meditating the God.
3. On Margashirsha Purnima you should also worship goddess Laxmi along with Lord Narayan it increases prosperity and equanimity.
4. Taking blessings from your elders touching their feet is very surpassing.
5. Offering food to the ants and cows is very auspicious, and we should feed fishes with little pills made of flour.
Lord Shri Krishna himself narrated that I am Margashirsha month and in Satyug Devtas begin their new year on the first day of Margashirsha month. This month known as Battisi (thirty-two) Purnima as any auspicious task done on this day would have 32 times more productive than other days.
This Purnima has a huge significance. Margashirsha Purnima is the biggest Purnima amount all the 12 Purnima falling in a calendar year as per the Gregorian calendar. this year Margashirsha Purnima is befalling on Sunday, 14th December, it will start from Saturday, Sunday, 15th December, 2024 at 04:48 p.m. and will end on Sunday 15th 02:05 p.m.
If possible, visit Haridwar to bathe in the holy waters of Ganga river and donate flour to the Pandits there. According to mythology and ancient epic stories, Satyug began from the month of Margashirsha Purnima, and any individual who does donation on this day gets 32 times more profit, you must keep a fast on this day and do not forget to donate.
