Maa Mahagauri - 8th Day of Navratri

Mother Mahagauri is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri. By worshipping Maha Gauri as the eighth form of Goddess Durga, the mind of the seeker becomes pure and all his wishes are fulfilled. On this day, Shodashopachara (Sixteen fold worship) poojan is also performed, thereby receiving the Mother's grace. The form of Mahagauri Devi is very attractive with 4 arms. Goddess MahaGauri Puja Method

Firstly it is important to cleanse the house with Ganga Jal and after this, install Goddess Mahagauri's picture on a low stool. After this, jal in a silver, copper or clay pot and place a coconut on it and create a Kalash. Bind it with a Kalwa, so that the coconut is hinged with the jar. After this, also establish on the stool, Shree Ganesh, Varun, Navagrahas, 16 Devis and a bindi of seven sindoors. After this, worship all the established deities and promise fasting, puja and take a vow with Mahagauri. Mother Mahagauri story

Mother Maha Gauri had done harsh struggle and penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband, with this her body had turned black. Mahadev was pleased with her penance and accepted her prayer. Because her body has turned black by penance, Mahadev washed it with gangajal, it became fair again. That's why she is called Gauri. For this reason, it is said that fasting on the Ashtami day, gives devotees their desired life partner.

Apart from this, another story of Mahagauri is also prevalent. According to this, when Mother Uma was doing penance in the forest, then a hungry lion was roaming in the forest. Searching for food, he reached near the spot where the Mother was deeply absorbed in meditation. When the goddess woke from her penance, seeing the lion's condition, she had great pity on him. Mother took the lion her ride and in a way, the lion had also practised penance with Mother.
