According to the ancient scriptures, the soul of a dead person is not liberated unless his own son does all the funeral procession.
The story advances as the king Suketuman used to live a depressed life. To overcome this pathetic situation, he went to the forest. But due to his obsession, he was lost in the thick forest. He was roaming here there, and, everywhere but could not find any exit from the forest. After many days of wandering, he found an Asharam which was situated on the bank of Mansarovar. He came across some great hermits, who advised him to do Pausha Putrda Ekadashi Vrat after recognizing his nagging concern. The king became ecstatic to know the solution to his piercing problem of not having any son. Soon, he reached his kingdom and narrated the story to the queen of his encounter and suggestions of hermits. Both king and queen started to do Pausha Putrada Ekadashi Vrat and follow the ritual with high devotion. The lord Vishnu became pleased to see their unceasing devotion towards him. King Suketuman got a son due to the grace of God. if you do this Vrat-Katha and observe a fast this auspicious Ekadashi you will get a virtuous child. The glory of the child will scatter in all directions due to the blessings of God.
